I have strong opinions about fundraising. I think it can be done more successfully, and with less stress, than most people imagine.

I believe that fundraising is not about asking for a handout, but is a way to invite people to live their values – and that few things are as important than that.

I’ve helped regional and international non-profits raise more than $25 million from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. I can help you achieve your goals by finding the funds you need to do the work.

There are no shortcuts to fundraising success, but there is a process that works. That’s when an organization aligns its vision, its work, and its story and creates a compelling narrative that reaches the hearts and minds of potential supporters.

I was Director of Development & Communications for both The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and the Sustainable Food Lab, and have more than fifteen years experience leading fundraising efforts that have surpassed their goals.

Capital campaigns:  The term creates anxiety in organizations that have never been through one, but a capital campaign is simply a very focused effort to raise funds. I’ve participated in a number of campaigns and directed a successful $3.5 million campaign for The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts that raised close to $5 million. I can help your organization assess your readiness for a campaign, do the groundwork that prepares the way, and implement a successful campaign.

Not only that, but we’ll have fun doing it!

Grants:  I’ve written successful proposals to the Gates Foundation, the Kresge Foundation (twice), and to many others, and have had two federal agencies ask to use my proposals as models for future applicants. I know what works.

Individuals:  Nearly every non-profit organization relies on individual donors, but most fall far short of their fundraising potential. I love assessing and improving fundraising campaigns and know how to get results. At The Food Bank, we doubled our direct mail revenue and tripled the number of major donors in four years.
